Police Detain Over 20 Students Following Clash with Residents in Kumasi
More than 20 students from Obuasi Senior High Technical School have been apprehended by the police after a clash with residents of Sokoban in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The incident occurred when a bus transporting the students from the Baba Yara sports stadium was hit by an object, resulting in the breaking of a side window.
Eyewitnesses reported that the students, upon disembarking from the bus, engaged in a rampage.
Two individuals, including a bus conductor and a hawker, were reportedly attacked during the altercation. The mother of one of the victims described the chaotic scene, stating that the students unleashed violence, causing panic among the bystanders.
Scores of concerned individuals gathered at the Ampabame No1 Police station, where the detained students were being held. Among them was an elderly man who vowed to remain at the station until he received positive news about the condition of his injured nephew.
The police have not provided any official comments on the incident.
However, in response to the situation, intensified police patrols have been deployed in the Sokoban and Ampabame communities to ensure the safe passage of students returning from the annual Inter Schools athletics competition held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
