Police Clears Achimota Housemaster in Alleged Sextortion Scandal

A Police forensic report has cleared an Achimota Senior High School housemaster, Mr. Emmanuel Hanson, of allegations of sextortion and sexual harassment that recently circulated on social media.
The development follows allegations by Ms. Musah Hafsatu Osmanu, a past student of Achimota, and her mother, Madam Daayimatu Abdallah, who accused Mr. Hanson of making sexual advances and demanding sexual favours in exchange for the return of a seized mobile phone.
In a rejoinder dated March 16, 2026, lawyers for Mr. Hanson revealed that a report, issued on March 1, 2026, by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, found no evidence of any WhatsApp communication between Mr. Hanson and his accuser, Ms. Osmanu.
“The forensic examination determined no WhatsApp conversation between the complainant (Mr. Emmanuel Hanson) and MTN numbers …. (Musah Hafsatu Osmanu)”
The legal team insists the claims are false and unsupported by evidence. They argue that the forensic findings conclusively debunk the allegations and raise questions about the authenticity of screenshots circulated online as proof.
According to the legal team, the issue began in November 2025 when Mr. Hanson confiscated a mobile phone from Ms. Osmanu while she was a student at Achimota School, in line with school regulations. The phone was subsequently handed over to the school authorities.
The statement explained that after completing her WASSCE examinations, Ms. Osmanu contacted Mr. Hanson in December 2025, requesting the return of the device. He reportedly informed her that the phone was no longer in his possession.
The situation escalated after a follow-up call from her mother, which the lawyers say turned confrontational. They further alleged that Madam Abdallah later sent an audio message containing threats, prompting Mr. Hanson to report the matter to the Achimota Police Station.
It was during police interactions, the lawyers said, that the allegations of sextortion emerged, accompanied by screenshots purported to show WhatsApp conversations.
The legal team, however, maintains that the images lacked dates and identifiable features linking them to Mr. Hanson and were therefore unreliable.
They also dismissed claims widely shared on social media that Mr. Hanson had been arrested or prosecuted, describing them as false.
In a bid to clear his name, Mr. Hanson petitioned the CID’s Cybercrime Unit and voluntarily submitted his mobile device for forensic examination. His lawyers noted that while he cooperated fully, the accuser allegedly declined to submit any device for similar analysis.
The lawyers contend that the police findings vindicate Mr. Hanson and suggest that the allegations may have been fabricated.
They added that the incident has caused significant reputational damage and personal distress to the housemaster and his family, and indicated that legal action will be pursued against those responsible for the claims.
