Police Arrest Violent ‘Husband’ at Ofankor

The Police have arrested one John Odartey Lamptey after the circulation of a video of his physical abuse of a woman believed to be his wife.
He was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on November 17, 2025, at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality alongside two of his siblings.
“Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety.”
Meanwhile, the police are trying to locate the victim who had reportedly fled from the residence following the incident.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law.”
The victim appeared in the said viral video, naked, while being flogged with thick canes and sticks.
Prior to the arrest, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection issued a statement condemning the incident.
“The Ministry wishes to state that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances. We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victims’ rights, and it’s highly punishable by law.”
It relayed that it had reached out to the Ghana Police Service to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted and justice is served.
It also encouraged eyewitnesses with vital information to assist law enforcement agencies immediately.
