Police Arrest Ex-Convict Over Series of Taxi Driver Robberies and Murders in Greater Accra

The Ghana Police Service has arrested an ex-convict identified as Peter Akakpo, also known as Dompe, in connection with a string of robberies and murders targeting taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region.
“The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested suspect Peter Akakpo, alias Dompe, in connection with ongoing investigation into a series of robberies and murders involving taxi drivers within the Greater Accra Region, particularly in the Odorkor enclave,” a statement from the Service said.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Akakpo was apprehended on October 13, 2025, at Kasoa-Domeabra after weeks of intelligence-led surveillance. He was found in a room reportedly rented by his accomplice, Vincent Gbetorglo.
Investigations into the case began after two taxi drivers were killed at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9 and June 15, 2025. The incidents, which raised public concern, prompted the CID’s Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU) to intensify operations within the Odorkor enclave and surrounding areas.
Police intelligence later led to the arrest of Gbetorglo on June 30, 2025. Subsequent investigations revealed that Gbetorglo had been in frequent communication with Akakpo, and the latter’s contact number was traced to both deceased drivers.
The statement explained that Akakpo’s arrest followed “weeks of sustained intelligence and monitoring,” adding that the suspect is assisting investigators with efforts to recover vehicles belonging to the murdered drivers.
The CID assured the public that investigations are ongoing.
“The Ghana Police Service wishes to assure the public that investigations are ongoing and that further developments will be communicated in due course,” the department stated, emphasizing that further details will be shared when available.
