Kumasi Female Prison Head Pulls Out After 34-year Illustrious Service

The Officer in Charge of the Kumasi Female Prison in the Ashanti Region, SPO.634 Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Joyce Annor-Owusu, has pulled out after a distinguished and illustrious 34 years of active service in the Prisons service.

A pull-out ceremony was held in her honour on October 1, 2025.

The Director of Prisons in charge of Health, Mrs. Joana Fofo-Tackie, appreciated the retiree’s exemplary, noble and diligent service.

The Ashanti Regional Commander, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) James B. Mwinyelle (Ing), presented a citation on behalf of the region and lauded ADP Owusu Annor for her dedication and service.

The colourful regimental event was graced by Officers in Charge of Prison establishments in the Ashanti Region, representatives of sister security agencies, cadet intake mates, recruit course mates, members of the Retired Prison Officers Association, Ashanti Region (REPOA) and family and friends.

The Prisons Regimental Band, Kumasi, led by Drum Major Francis Elikem Dzradosi and Band Leader, Corporal Kenneth Osikafo Agyei Adjetey, took charge of the parade commanded by ASP Emelia Badzie of the Kumasi Female Prison.

ADP Annor-Owusu was recruited into the Ghana Prisons Service in August 1991 as a Recruit Officer of Course 94. After months of rigorous paramilitary training, she passed out as a Second Class officer and was posted to the Nsawam Female Prison.

By dint of hard work, dedication and upgrade in her academics, she was enlisted into the Officer Cadet Course Intake 20 and commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) in 2008.

She served at the Nsawam Female Prison as a Storekeeper, Sekondi Female Prison as Officer in Charge of Criminal Records, Staff Officer, and was later elevated to the office of Second in Command.

At the Akuse Female Prison, she was the Officer-in-Charge and was transferred to the Kumasi Female Prison as the Officer-In-Charge, where she retired after 34 years of active service.
