{Pictures} Lady Julia Hosts Co-wives At Manhyia Palace
Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the wife of the Asantehene set aside Sunday to unite her co-wives in the celebration of the New Year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Known as “Aheneyere” in the local dialect, these female leaders are successors to wives who were taken by Occupants of the Golden Stool and enstooled as Queens in selected areas across Asanteman.
The event brought together ceremonial wives of the King from across Asanteman to the Palace on January 5, 2025.
Beautifully adorned in their respective choice of apparel, the Queens joined the luncheon, danced and made merry.
Addressing her guests, Her Ladyship announced plans to organize such events to form a bond between themselves.
“There’s no hard feeling. It’s all love. It’s a new year and we had to come together in love and celebrate. It is an event we have to hold occasionally. I wish all of us a happy New Year. I pray for health and unity for us all.”
She welcomed ideas on how to forge stronger bonds among themselves.
“We can take advantage of this and undertake projects for our development. Anyone who has an idea can bring it on board so we work on it. It could be anything at all that would foster our unity.”
The Asantehene who passed through the gathering upon the insistence of Lady Julia complimented the looks of his wives.
“Your co-wife {Lady Julia} informed me she wanted to host you. It was an all-women affair but she insisted I pass by and say hello.”
He used the occasion to wish them well ahead of the New Year and assured them of his commitment to their needs.
