Partey Takes over as Captain after Andre Ayew Exclusion

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will be captain of the Black Stars in the absence of Andre Dede Ayew in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central Africa Republic.

Andre, one of the two remaining Ayew brothers in the Black Stars was left out of the 26-man squad called by Head Coach Otto Addo.

He announced his squad at a presser on May 29 during which he indicated he personally spoke to Andre about his intention to exclude him from the squad.

In his place as captain, he said Thomas Partey will act.

Meanwhile, his brother, Jordan Ayew made it onto the list alongside Lawrence Ati Zigi, Joseph Wollacot, Fredrick Asare, Gideon Mensah, Ebenezer Annan, Mohammed Salisu, Jerome Opoku, Abdul Mumin, Alexander Djiku, Alidu Seidu, Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, Salis Abdul Samed and Ibrahim Sulemana.

The rest are Thomas Partey, Edmund Addo, Elisha Owusu, Abu Francis, Osman Bukari, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Ibrahim Osman, Kamaaldeen Sulemana, and Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Ghana will face Mali in Bamako on June 6 and Central Africa Republic on June 10.
