Parliament’s Appointments Committee Summons Barker-Vormawor

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has summoned social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor following an unsavoury and contemptuous comment about the committee.

The Committee has been sitting to vet the Ministerial nominees of President John Dramani Mahama for the past week.

The activist who has been charged with Treason felony is reported to have alleged that the Committee extorts money from the nominees to push their approval.

During their routine work on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor denied the allegations.

“I Bernard Ahiafor, the first deputy speaker of Ghana’s Parliament and the Chairman of the Vetting committee want to place it on record that myself and the committee members do not demand money from any nominee before vetting and approval.”

He further directed the Clerk to summon the accuser before the Committee on January 29, 2025, at 10 am to adduce evidence to support his allegation.

“I will therefore ask the clerk of the Committee to invite Oliver Barker Vormawor to appear before the Committee tomorrow at 10 to provide evidence of Bernard Ahiafor, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee or any member of the Vetting Committee to back his claim that we demand money from the nominees before vetting and approval.”

Failure to comply with the summon, he said, the powers of the Committee under Article 103 and Standing Order 134 will be invoked to deal with him.
