Parliamentary Staff & Families Booster Shots Ends Today
Today, Thursday, January 27, 2022, marks the deadline for parliamentary staff members to get themselves and their families vaccinated or risk being denied entry into the precincts of Parliament.
On Tuesday when Parliament reconvened, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin charged members, Staff, and ancillary staff to get the booster shots at a temporal vaccination point established on the parliamentary premises.
“It is against this background that after consultation with the leaders of the house, I directed the clerk and the administration to arrange a vaccination booster exercise which commenced on Saturday, 2nd January 2022…to Thursday, 27 January 2022 for members, staff, ancillary staff, and members of their families”, the Speaker said on the floor of Parliament.
Speaker Bagbin emphasised that the exercise was compulsory for all.
“Honourable members, henceforth, staff and ancillary staff need to show proof of vaccination before being allowed into any office within the precincts of parliament. After the vaccination exercise, any member, staff, and ancillary staff who fail to take the booster jab will be denied access to parliament”, he said.
Bagbin re-echoed that “medical experts have strongly recommended that even after taking two shots of the vaccine, one requires a booster shot to provide an extra layer of protection against a virus.”
