Parliament Outlines Protocols for SONA

Parliament has issued protocols to guide the visit of President John Dramani Mahama to deliver the State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) next week.

The event will take place on February 27, 2026, in line with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

Parliament says it has implemented procedures to ensure that journalists follow established protocols and acquire appropriate accreditation.

It noted that failure to obtain accreditation will result in the denial of access.

Below are protocols:
* All Journalists who intend to cover this event but are not members of the Parliamentary Press Corps must submit their application not later than Tuesday, 24th February, 2026, to the Director, Media Relations Department.

* Accordingly, Journalists should ensure that their accreditation is conspicuously displayed throughout the event.

* Journalists/Reporters should restrict themselves to the designated areas as indicated on their respective accreditation.

* The Rt. Hon. Speaker’s lobby is Out of Bounds for photography, interviews and any other related media engagements.

* Clean feed will be provided for rebroadcast. Unless it is absolutely necessary, members of the media are encouraged to access the clean feed to avoid overcrowding at the public gallery.

* All interviews and live broadcasts shall be held at the Foyer on the Ground floor of the Chamber block, Parliament House. Kindly note that Media Houses/Reporters will undergo security screening, which includes their equipment/gadgets.

* Allocation of the space in the foyer will be on a “first-come, first-served” basis.

* The public gallery has been designated for invited guests, and therefore, the media are to restrict their activities to the press gallery as much as possible.

* All media outlets/reporters must strictly comply with these directions as part of the security measures in place to ensure the event’s success.
