Pape Thiaw, 2 Teranga Lions Players Suffer Severe Ban from CAF’s Jury

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee slapped Pape Bouna Thiaw with a fine and a match suspension after the final at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Jane Njeri Onyango of Kenya took up leadership of the disciplinary committee proceedings after the committee’s chairman, Ousmane Kane, a Senegalese recused himself from overseeing the 2025 AFCON final case owing to a probable conflict of interest.

The punishments were part of a broad set of disciplinary procedures published by CAF following disturbances during the AFCON final between Senegal and hosts Morocco.

Thiaw broke the rules of fair play and integrity by instructing his players to walk off the ground during the heated final, which the continental body claimed brought the game into disrepute.

Thiaw has been fined USD 100,000 and suspended from five official CAF matches for his unsportsmanlike attitude towards referee Jean-Jacques Ndala of DR Congo.

Lliman Barey Ndiaye of Everton and Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace were also punished as their head coach; CAF suspended both players for two official matches.

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) was fined a total of USD 615,000 due to a series of misconduct by the supporters and the players’ attitude during the Teranga Lions’ matches.

The federation has also been fined USD 300,000 for the illegal conduct of its fans, which brought the game into disrepute in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play and integrity.

An amount of USD 300,00 for the unsporting conduct of their players and technical staff in violation of the CAF Disciplinary Code principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity.

The federation received another fine because Teranga Lions had five players being fined USD 15,000 since they were cautioned by referee Jean-Jacques Ndala for a misconduct during the final in Rabat.
