Owed Nurses and Midwives Demand Answers over Deletion of Arrears

A group calling itself the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana are seeking answers for the motivation behind the deletion of members’ long-standing unpaid salaries from the government’s payroll system.

They further seek to identify the authority responsible for the order of deletion.

In a statement, the group condemned and opposed the action as unjust and dishonest.

“Nurses and midwives who have worked tirelessly for this country cannot and will not accept a situation where their hard-earned income is quietly wiped away from official records.”

It explained that a number of the affected members consistently had their salary arrears validated on the Government payroll system every month, even though actual payments were not made to them.

However, it said the accumulated arrears were not found on their Payment Vouchers in the most recent validation for February 2026.

The deletion, it stated, had been confirmed by their Payroll Validators and Human Resource Officers across various health facilities.

“Our questions are: who authorised the removal of our legitimately earned arrears and on what legal or administrative basis were these arrears cleared?”

The group thereby called on the government to investigate the ‘anomaly’, restore and pay all unlawfully removed arrears without delay to avoid any labour unrest.

It comes after the Controller and Accountant General’s Department distanced itself from the claims.
