Over Gh₵1 million-worth Suspected Cannabis Discovered in Impounded Truck

Authorities have discovered suspected cannabis valued at over one million cedis in a confiscated mineral water distribution van.

The van with registration No. GC 3522-09 was intercepted on December 29, 2025, at the Bonakye checkpoint by the Police in Oti Region while heading toward Kpassa.


The driver and one other occupant fled, abandoning the vehicle with the ignition key.

Following an order issued by the Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Y. Kerieba, the truck was opened on February 24, 2026, at Nkwanta in the presence of representatives from the Police, Military, NIB, Defence Intelligence, Ghana National Fire Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media.


A statement by the police said officers discovered 320 cartons of bottled mineral water as well as 91 bales of suspected cannabis, totalling 7,173 slabs, with an estimated street value of the seized substances exceeding GH₵ 1.4 million.

“The exhibits have been retained as investigations proceed.”


The Police further assured the public of their continued commitment to combat trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs and encouraged the public to volunteer information that will assist in crime prevention and detection.
