Over 80 Chanfan Machines, 50 Makeshift Boats On Ankobra River Destroyed in 48-hour Crackdown

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has reported the destruction of over 80 Chanfan Machines and 50 makeshift boats on the Ankobra River by personnel of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and the Blue Water Guards.
In a 48-hour crackdown in the Western Region over the weekend, the joint team dismantled the infrastructure across the Ankobra River and the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Wassa Akropong districts, crippling their operations and seizing critical assets across multiple sites.
โThrough targeted raids, we destroyed over 80 chanfan machines and 50 makeshift boats on the Ankobra River, arrested foreign operators, and immobilised excavators and pumping equipment at illegal land sites.โ
It stated that the immediate pollution to waterways had been halted, safeguarding surrounding farmlands and ecosystems.
It added that public infrastructure had been secured from dangerous encroachment.
It furthered that NAIMOS was establishing a permanent, deterring presence in these hotspots to secure our gains and ensure these critical resources are permanently protected for the future of Ghana.
