Our Proposal Was To Highlight Police Brutality; FixTheCountry Justifies
The FixTheCountry group has justified their proposal for a privately armed security agency for the June 4 Demo.
The desire, it said, was a strategy to highlight police brutality in crowd control.
“In our attempt to strategically highlight policing brutality and other problematic crowd control tactics, we chose an advocacy approach that made some people uncomfortable.”
The group has therefore issued a statement apologising to the public.
“We unreservedly apologise to the public, especially our supporters.”
It added that “we intend to repair and rebuild public trust by first holding ourselves accountable to the highest democratic principles. Importantly, this includes listening and taking seriously criticisms.”
This comes after the organisers of the June 4 Demo came under public outrage for writing to the police that they would rather contract private security personnel and arm them to protect protesters on June 4, 2022, the day slated for the beginning of a three-day demonstration.
