Otumfuo’s Reign Offers Invariable Lessons on Leadership- UCC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has hailed the leadership of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as exemplary.

According to him, it offers “invariable” lessons that could be tapped for peace-building and leadership.

“Your Majesty, by conferring on you this honorary degree, we are not only recognizing your profound contribution to Ghana but also the invariable lessons your reign has offered us in peacebuilding and leadership. Your dedication to conflict resolution and stabilization of regions and beyond Asante Kingdom has been exemplary.”

He said this during the conferment of an Honourary Doctorate Degree on Otumfuo by the University based in the Central Region on September 5, 2024.

In his speech, the Chancellor of the UCC, Sir Sam Jonah admired Otumfuo’s prowess in traditional wisdom and modern pragmatism.

“His reign has been a continuous demonstration of navigating complex issues with the blend of traditional wisdom and modern pragmatism. His ability to unite people from all walks of life has earned him profound respect and admiration globally.”

Meanwhile, the Pro Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Rosemond Boohene, in her submission acknowledged Otumfuo as Ghana’s most sought-after leader in traditional matters.

She recognizes that his leadership has now become a template for traditional leaders across the country.

”You have initiated projects that have put our traditional leaders into a new learning process that enables them to lead their people in community development programmes, as well as create awareness of the value of our cultural heritage, including art and artefacts, as well as the traditional court systems in conflict resolution.

“Your Majesty, the unique brand of your leadership has endeared you to Asante in particular and Ghana as a whole. As Asantehene, you have instilled peace and stability in your governance style among your people, as well as encouraged them to pursue arbitration instead of litigation, especially in numerous land and succession disputes that had plagued Asanteman for decades.”

The event was held at the New Examination Centre (NEC Hall) of the university.

Present at the event were eminent Asante traditional authorities, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Nana Ekua Abookye VI, the Queen, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Education Minister and Hon Francis Asenso Boakye, the Minister for Roads and Highways.

Also were Sir Sam Jonah, the Chancellor of the UCC, Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Manish Gupta and others.
