Otumfuo Meets Opportunity International, Sinapi Aba

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had an engagement with Opportunity International, the partners of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans Limited at the Manhyia Palace on May 31, 2024.

The CEO of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans Ltd, Mr Tony Fosu Gyasi and a Board Member, Mrs Dorothy Danso, formally introduced Opportunity International’s Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from various countries, including the United Kingdom’s Nana Francois and Canada’s Dan Murray and some board members.

Otumfuo lauded the non-profit organisation, Opportunity International, for its offer of a wide range of financial and non-financial services and assistance to farmers and individuals through Sinapi Aba.

“I was going through your {interventions} of 21,000 farmers benefitting from your support, 5,000 being trained in entrepreneurship and the various market women who benefit from your support. There are people here who do not have collaterals to give to the banks and so easily accessing funds from Sinapi Aba through you is something that helps the market women and petty traders to be able to cater for their families so this is very important to me.”

The mandate of the two partners in empowering the under-privileged resonates with the objective and desire of His Majesty.

After 30 years of delivering on this mandate, Otumfuo looks forward to 30 more years of enhanced partnership between the two in making lives better.

“In 30 years, they have done so much. Mrs Danso introduced it to me 25 years ago and they are still doing well… I look forward to another 30 years where I will have so many people trained, so many market women and ordinary people: tailors and hairdressers all benefitting from it.”

He noted people without access to capital from banks rely on Sinapi Aba to get themselves employed in some petty trade as well as secure funds to augment their capital in trade.

Additionally, Otumfuo lauded the foresight of the Management and Board of Sinapi Aba for the effective policies and measures they have rolled out along the year.
