Otumfuo is One of the Most Sought-after Traditional Leaders- UCC
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has acknowledged the relevance of the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in matters relating to traditional affairs and wisdom.
According to the topmost University in Africa, the name of the King cannot be omitted when it comes persons to turn to for counsel in traditional and modern trends.
“You remain one of Ghana’s most sought-after leaders in traditional matters,” the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Rosemond Boohene said at an event on September 5, 2024, where an honourary doctorate degree was conferred on the Asantehene.
The University recognized the distinguished reign of the King has gracefully positioned his leadership as a template for other leaders.
“You have initiated projects that have put our traditional leaders into a new learning process that enables them to lead their people in community development programmes, as well as create awareness of the value of our cultural heritage, including art and artefacts, as well as the traditional court systems in conflict resolution. Your Majesty, the unique brand of your leadership has endeared you to Asante in particular and Ghana as a whole.
“As Asantehene, you have instilled peace and stability in your governance style among your people, as well as encouraged them to pursue arbitration instead of litigation, especially in numerous land and succession disputes that had plagued Asanteman for decades. Over the period of your reign as Asantehene, you have brought peace and reconciliation to Asante. Your ability to settle over five hundred (500) land and Chieftaincy disputes which could have sparked agitations among your people and elsewhere is commendable.”
