Otumfuo Foundation-funded Maternity Ward Expansion Set for Handover
The Maternity Ward expansion project of the Manhyia Government Hospital will be handed over to the hospital next week.
The almost completed project is undergoing some touches and will be ready by the first week of March 2024, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Kwaku Kamaldeen Hussein informed opemsuo.com.
“It’s almost done. We are going to hand it over next week. They are doing painting,” he told opemsuo.com on the sideline of a tour of the project and other stalled ones on February 29, 2024.
The extension project which is being funded by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation (OOTIIF), was initiated by Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the King of the Asante Kingdom in 2021.
The project became imperative due to the congested nature of the main Maternity Ward. The situation left the hospital with no choice but to have mothers deliver on the floor.
The situation was witnessed during the tour. At least four mothers and their delivered babies were found lying on mattresses on the bare floor of the ward’s hallway.
With the handing over of the now 50-bed capacity facility- previously 16- by the contractors, expectant mothers are assured quality health care before, during and after delivery at the facility.
