Otumfuo Explains Why He Settled On Ogum As Kotoko Coach
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has said he settled on Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum as the suitable head coach for the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club after multiple consultations.
He said he consulted four different people to make the choice which was announced late last month by the Manhyia Palace.
Two of the people he consulted included coach Kwesi Appiah who is now a member of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Club and Team Manager Ohene Brenya. The remaining two, he did not name but indicated one resides in Accra.
Throughout his consultations, he said, only one name was proposed- Dr Prosper Ogum.
He then settled on him as the right choice for the Club and called him up. “When I called him, I told him it was a command to come take over the Club and not an option,” the life patron of the Porcupine Warriors said during a meeting with the Interim Management Committee (IMC), the technical team and players at the Manhyia August 7, 2023.
Otumfuo also said he has charged the IMC to give the coach the room needed to get his choice of players and technical team to work and deliver on his mandate.
He further urged the Coach to make the players and technical team understand the game depends on their effort and assured them of the necessary support from supporters.
Coach Ogum led the Club to the 2021/2022 premier league win. He was officially unveiled today by the Club.
