Otumfuo Discourages Sale of Large Tracts of Land to Developers

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has discouraged the sale of large tracts of land to developers.
The King was particular about potential investors whose capacity and commitment to the proposed project could not be guaranteed
His Majesty acknowledges that this intensifies the issue of multiple land sales and impacts many people whose livelihoods depend on the land.
“Most chiefs sell large tract of land to people for project but after the developers delay in executing the project, they {the chiefs} begin selling parts of these lands. Why do you sell large tracts in the first place? Don’t give large tracts because it most often affects those who depend on the land for sustenance,” the Monarch said during a meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on December 19, 2025.
His Majesty stated that the capacity of an investor must first be proven before allotting such lands to avoid making the land dormant.
That notwithstanding, the Asantehene intimated that the victims must be compensated before being evicted from such lands.
“Indeed, you are a chief. In such instances, you have to engage those whose livelihoods depend on it and compensate them for the eviction.”
