Otumfuo Commends IGP Dapare
The King of the Asante Kingdom has complimented the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare for his exceptional leadership over the Police Service.
Dr Dampare took over from James Oppong-Boanuh on August 1, 2021, as the acting IGP following the latter’s retirement.
Right after this, he began numerous reformations including the active use of social media for communication and a clamp down on armed robbers which earned him plaudits from Ghanaians.
He was sworn in as the 23rd IGP of the country in October 2021.
His reign has been characterised by increased police visibility around the country, renovation of Police Headquarters in Accra, prioritisation of police officers’ welfare, regulation of prophecies communication, routine community engagements, use of social media in communicating to the public and many others although more is required of him.
He continues to receive commendation from the public for his initiatives and his most recent one comes from the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The King described him as “affable” before a convocation at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology during the 56th Congregation of the School on Friday, March 17, 2023, during which he {Dampare} was present.
“He is such an affable nice man”, the King testified of him.
He went on to say, “We also thank him for those initiatives and changes in the police force. Since he took over, I have been monitoring and I know that he is showing leadership and I’m sure all his members will follow him.”
