Otto Addo Confirms Benjamin Asare as Number 1 Goalkeeper

The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has confirmed that Hearts of Oak keeper, Benjamin Asare, is the first-choice goalkeeper of the team.
This was announced during a post-match press conference on Monday after Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.
It comes after he kept a clean sheet in the two qualifiers in March, making a good impression.
“I think the next game is in June, and [Benjamin Asare] is already the number one. We made that decision for him.”
Addo said the technical team decided to give him the opportunity after impressing at training.
“He trained very well. We have a good atmosphere where the keepers are pushing each other.”
The head coach also commended Joojo Wollacot and Lawrence Ati Zigi for the assistance they have offered Asare who earned his first national call-up.
“I’m also thankful for the way Ati Zigi and Wollacot behaved this week and the way they also tried to push Benjamin to help him and support him. I don’t take it for granted.”
The Black Stars has cruised to the top of Group I with 15 points, five points away from Madagascar.
They have four games remaining and hope to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
