OSP Probe: Ofori Atta to Return to Ghana in May

Lawyers of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, say he will return to Ghana in mid-May to avail himself for the investigation into five contracts issued during his tenure.
The cousin of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
His wanted posters were issued online on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Following this, his lawyers have written to the OSP relaying plans for his return.
A copy of the letter read in Parliament by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, on February 18 said he was scheduled for a surgical procedure and would be fit to return to Ghana in the next three months.
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated February 17, 2025, we respectfully indicate that our client who is much due for his return cannot be any time before six to eight weeks of his possible surgical intervention as stated in the hospital’s letter.”
“Our clients hold that taking into account surgical dates from March 20 to 21, and his recuperation period he should be able to be back into the jurisdiction between May 14 and 30, 2025,” it added.
It urged the Office to fix a day for the in-person meeting and pleaded for his name to be removed from the wanted list.
In the wanted notice released on Monday, February 17, 2025, the OSP said the 66-year-old is likely to be in the United States of America (USA) or the United Kingdom (UK).
He is required to assist in investigations into five cases including Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited & GRA Contract; ECG and Beijing Technology Limited Contract Termination; National Cathedral Project; Procurement of Ambulances; and GRA’s Tax Refund Account Payments.
