OSP Invites Prof Frimpong Boateng
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has extended an invitation to the Chairperson of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
He is expected to assist the OSP with an investigation into illegal mining and matters relating to IMCIM.
The Office sees him as a “person necessary for investigation”.
Prof Frimpong Boateng made this known in a press release dated May 4, 2023.
He said he received the invitation from the OSP on Thursday- two days after the Office responded to calls to probe allegations that some officials of the ruling party and government were behind illegal mining.
Specifically, the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation is under investigation for the activities and expenditure of the IMCIM.
He is willing to avail himself in the investigations.
“I have formally communicated my willingness to attend the invitation and to support the OSP in its work,” his press statement relayed.
In an interview in March this year, former Secretary of the IMCIM, Charles Bissue accused Prof Frimpong Boateng of conflict of interest and undertaking illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
“Meanwhile, he {Prof Frimpong Boateng} had given the excavators {which had been seized and declared missing} to people to work for him,” he claimed.
