Only Accredited Delegates to Vote in NPP Presidential Primaries – Hon Osei Owusu

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Election Committee, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, has clarified that only duly accredited delegates will be permitted to vote in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
“Only accredited delegates are eligible to vote in the presidential primaries,” he stated.
Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Nkawantannanso on Opemsuo Radio, Hon. Osei Owusu outlined the categories of party members recognised as delegates under the NPP’s constitution.
He explained that each polling station has five delegates, while every constituency contributes its 17 constituency executives as delegates. In addition, party patrons who provide financial support and members of the Council of Elders who offer strategic guidance are also recognised as delegates.
Hon. Osei Owusu further disclosed that recent constitutional amendments have expanded the delegate base to include former Members of Parliament.
He added that party members who contested and won primaries and went on to represent the NPP in national elections, as well as former District and Municipal Chief Executives, are also part of the delegate structure.
According to him, former ministers and deputy ministers who are members of the NPP, TESCON presidents and patrons, leaders of external branches, regional and national officers, and members of the National Council of Patrons are all eligible delegates.
To ensure transparency and fairness in the process, Hon. Osei Owusu said the party has handed over the entire conduct of the presidential primaries to the Electoral Commission (EC).
“We have handed the entire electoral process to the EC to ensure transparency and fairness,” he said.
