Okyereko Section of Kasoa-Winneba Highway Opens
The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the Okyereko section of the Kasoa-Winneba Highway in the Central Region has been opened to traffic following repairs.
The Okyereko bridge on the Ayensu River got flooded by a downpour on June 5, causing damage to the bridge and necessitating its closure to motorists.
“The road caved in due to a bridge top over at the Ayensu River following the diversion of the river at Okyereko in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region to make way for the construction of a new bridge foundation,” the Ministry said in a statement.
It, however, indicated that the section had been opened back to traffic through the efforts of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) and the contractor.
Hon. Thomas Mbomba, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, in an interaction with the media, commended the contractor and officials of the GHA for working assiduously to reinstate the road within a short period.
He further appealed to the contractor to forestall recurrence.
The GHA, in a statement last week, announced the closure of the road to the public, directing motorists to use alternative routes.
Motorists travelling from Accra to Cape Coast used the Akoti-Ojobi-Winneba Road, while those travelling from Cape Coast to Accra used the Winneba -Ojobi – Aloti Junction on the N1.
