Ohene Yeboah Is Doing His Own Bid; Concerned Drivers On GRTCC Release
The Concerned Drivers Union has taken a swipe at the Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah for directing the general public to resist the 20% transport fare increment.
In a statement dated May 8, Ohene Agyapong cautioned drivers against charging new fares, stating that the GPRTU cannot charge new fares without undergoing the protocol of consulting the Ministry of Transport and the GRTCC.
He noted that a meeting has been arranged between the driver union, Transport Ministry and the GRTCC on Wednesday, May 11 for deliberation over transport fare adjustment.
This didn’t seem to go down well with the GPRTU and other driver unions who are scheduled to hold a press conference today, May 10 to address that statement, the Concerned Drivers Union relayed.
In an interview monitored by opemsuo.com, the vice Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Union, David Agboado stated that Ohene Yeboah is serving his own interest rather than others as the secretary to the GRTCC.
“What Ohene Yeboah is saying (in the release) he wrote that letter alone and signed it. If you read this letter carefully paragraph by paragraph, he is saying that the GRTCC and the GPRTU are signatories to any price increment….Ohene Yeboah is not a transporter, he is not doing the bid of transporters. He is doing this for his parochial interest.
He insisted that the unions will go by what has been established.
“We are transport operators and we are serious-minded transport operators and we will stand by our word and do what is right for the driving public.”
