Ofosu Ampofo, Kwaku Boahen Discharged of Conspiracy to Commit Assault Charge

Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and former Deputy Communications Officer, Anthony Kwaku Boahen, have been discharged of the conspiracy to commit assault charge.
The two were arrested and later granted bail in 2019 after they were allegedly captured on a leaked tape plotting to attack the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensah.
This was immediately after the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election which turned chaotic between National Security Officers and vigilantes of the NDC.
The ongoing trial will no longer continue after the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, announced plans to withdraw the case.
The notice issued on January 29 read, “Please take note that at the next hearing of this suit, the Prosecutor on the instructions of the Honourable Attorney-General hereby withdraws all offences and or charges against all the Accused Persons herein under section 59(1), (2)(b)(ii) and (5) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act of Ghana, Act 30.”
