Officials Who Engage in Illegalities Will Be Prosecuted- EC
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has vowed to ensure the prosecution of its staff who engage in electoral malpractices in the ongoing Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The warning followed an incident at the Temporary Booth Bayiri Polling Station in the Techiman South District of the Bono East Region where a ballot issuer identified as Mr. Joseph Derry issued ballot papers with the first Presidential candidate on the ballot torn off.
He was caught after issuing at least 15 ballot papers in that state to voters.
The EC in a press statement vowed that all officials who engage in such will be arrested.
“The Commission warns all Election Officials who violate our processes and electoral laws will – be prosecuted. The Commission further warns that it will not shield any Election Officials who misconduct themselves during the Elections.”
Urging the public to remain calm, it noted that it will cooperate fully with the Police to get to the bottom of the matter.
“We urge the public to remain calm and report any incident to the Police or call the Commission on its Toll-Free Number 0800 324 324,” it added.
