#OccupyBoGProtest: Minority Promises Another Protest
The Minority in Parliament has declared their intention to stage another street protest, demanding the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, along with his two deputies.
This announcement comes after the Minority took to the streets to protest against the BoG for its GHC 60.8 billion loss in 2022, unauthorized money printing to support the government, and other issues.
They had initially planned to present their petition to the Governor of the BoG on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. However, their efforts were met with disappointment as the Governor failed to appear to receive the petition.
Instead, the Bank of Ghana sent Wing Commander Kwame Asare Boateng, the Director of Security of the BoG, to collect the petition on behalf of the absent Governor.
Wing Commander Kwame Asare Boateng addressed the protesters, stating, “We were informed that you would come and present the petition, but as we speak, the governor is meeting with the IMF team.”
Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Bank’s response, deeming it disrespectful.
He emphasized, “It is very disrespectful for the Governor himself not to receive the petition. Not even the deputy is here, and we never said we were going to present our petition to security. We will not hand over the petition under these circumstances.”
