Obuasi Circuit Court Remands 7 Illegal Miners

The Obuasi Circuit Court has remanded seven individuals arrested for illegal mining into police custody for two weeks.

The accused persons appeared before the court for the first time on February 13, 2025, in a hearing presided over by His Honour Mark Tairima Diboro.

The court’s decision allows for further investigations into the matter. The accused are facing charges of illegal mining, aiding, and abetting.

They allegedly conducted mining operations at Adaase-Kwapea in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to Osei Akomeah, counsel for the complainant, the court issued a bench warrant for three additional accused persons who failed to appear in court.

Akomeah stated to Opemsuo reporter Adwoa Serwaa Yonkodo that the court also ordered investigations to bring other corporate entities involved in the illegal mining activities to justice.

Nana Gyamerah Kwabena Oyiakwan II, Adansi-Kwapea Hene, who led the arrest of the miners, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision and confidence that justice will prevail.

He urged the court to make a sound judgment regarding those involved in galamsey in the Adansi area.

He applauded the decision the court made today regarding the miners.
