NPP Parliamentary Candidate wants UCC Council Chairman Removed

The Parliamentary Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Cape Coast North Constituency, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has requested the removal of the Chairman of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Governing Council,

In a four-paged petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Council Chairman who was appointed in February was accused of exhibiting dictatorship, staging unprovoked attacks on Vice Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, abusing processes, disrespecting leadership, embroiled in conflict of interest and being a source of discord on campus.

According to the candidate, the President has become the last resort after all avenues used in reasoning with the Chairman failed.

Meanwhile he contends that the actions of Prof Amonoo-Kuofi has the propensity to deny the NPP the chance recapture the Cape Coast North seat.

He explained, “This request is being made as a final resort after numerous efforts by the eminent of the community, including myself to request him to conduct himself as a seasoned stateman and responsible Chairperson of a highly esteemed institution as the University of Cape Coast has proofed futile.

“Although the Chairman may be seen as a party person and professional, his conduct clearly demonstrate that he is seeking a personal agenda than the one that he was brought in for which is the collective interest of the University thereby affecting our chances of winning the seat.”

He believes his removal will favour the NPP’s quest to reclaim the seat.

“Your Excellency, I am compelled to request the immediate removal of Prof Harold Amonoo-Koufi as the Chairperson of the UCC Governing Council in the interest of the University. This measure will help restore peace on the University’s campus, create a favourable environment for the faculty and staff members, and for a successful campaign in the December 2024 elections.

“I wish to state that I have no personal issues with Prof. Harold Amonoo-Koufi. However, these unfortunate incidents, which have already begun, will negatively impact our chances at reclaiming the Cape Coast North Constituency in the upcoming general elections.”
