No Ghana Card, No National Service; NSA Boss Declares

The Acting Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi has declared that the Ghana Card will be a prerequisite for all persons seeking to register for the compulsory National Service.

At a presser on February 13, 2025, he said prospective graduates will have to furnish their national identification card to be recruited.

This move is part of efforts to deal with ghost names on the National Service payroll.

“If you do not have a valid Ghana Card ID, you will not be allowed into our system. If you are a prospective graduate without a Ghana Card, you will not be permitted to undertake national service. These are some of the steps we are taking to remove ghost names,” he is quoted as saying by JoyNews.

It comes after eighty-one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five suspected Ghost names were discovered on the payroll after a headcount of active National Service personnel at the behest of the Minister for Finance as a prerequisite for the clearance of allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.

This number, he said, is 81,885 fewer than the 180,030 names submitted by the previous management of the Authority for allowance payments in 2024.

President John Dramani Mahama has since ordered an investigation into these names.
