Ningo Prampram MP Calls For Extension Of Sim Registration Deadline
The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George, has called for the extension of the deadline for the SIM card re-registration exercise underway in Ghana.
The call follows the edge towards the March 31 deadline set by the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation headed by Ursula Owusu Erkuful, after which unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated.
In case deaf ears are turned to his call, the Ningo Prampram MP says he will throw his support behind a suit against the Ministry and its sub institution, the National Communications Authority (NCA).
He has therefore given Ursula Ekuful and her outfit, up to the close of this week.
According to him, an extension of the date is required due to “obvious challenges Ghanaians faced” in the exercise.
“If by close of this week, the Ministry of Communications does not extend the SIM card re-registration deadline due to the obvious challenges Ghanaians are facing, I would support legal action against the Ministry and its agency, the @NCAGhana. Ghanaians deserve better.”
Per a notice from the NCA, as of March 11, 13.4 million sim cards had been successfully linked to their Ghana Cards with 9.7 million SIM cards fully registered.’
