Nigeria’s Awoniyi In Induced Coma After Surgery

Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi is reported to be in an induced coma after undergoing surgery for an injury he sustained on Sunday.
The surgery on Monday was the first phase of the procedure for the abdominal injury.
Reports say he is on admission for the remaining procedure on Wednesday.
Forest issued a statement on Monday night, saying the striker was recovering well so far.
The player sustained a serious injury during a clash against Leicester City after colliding with a goalpost. The player continued to play and was given medical treatment later, prompting the need for an urgent surgery.
In a statement, the club underscored the seriousness of his injury as a powerful reminder of the physical risks in the game, and why a player’s health and well-being must always come first.
“At Nottingham Forest, this principle is not just policy for us; it is the deeply held belief and conviction of our owner. To Evangelos Marinakis, this isn’t just a football club – it’s family – and he instils that message in all of us.”
