Nigerian Sets Record For Longest Handmade Wig
A Nigerian professional wigmaker, Helen Williams, has set a new record for the longest handmade wig, the Guinness World Record has announced.
The wig measures 351.28 metres (1,152 ft 5 in) and was completed in 11 days at a cost of over two million naira (£2,031; $2,493), the Records said.
She is said to have used 1,000 bundles of hair, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and 6,250 hair clips.
In spite of her experience as a professional wigmaker in the last eight years, Helen told the Guinness World Record that the task was a daunting one for her when it came to finding the needed products, putting the wig together and finding a space.
Expressing her awe, she described her achievement as the best thing that ever happened to her.
“This achievement is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I still cannot believe it.”
Her achievement comes as a consolation to Nigerians following the dethronement of Chef Hilda Baci as the world’s longest cooking marathon record holder by Irish restauranteur, Alan Fisher.
