NIA Warns Against Provision of False Information During Registration

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has warned persons seeking to register for national identity cards against false information.

It comes after a young man was jailed for providing false information at a registration centre.

“Chairman thought he could outsmart the National Identification System (NIS) by providing false information at an NIA registration centre. But the law and system caught up with him! Now, he is in jail,” it said without identifying the culprit.

The Authority cautioned that it is an offence to give false information.

It is noted that all information provided by applicants is cross-checked in their robust system.

“It is an offence for anyone to give false information to the NIA during the registration exercise. Offenders will be investigated, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

The NIA has resumed the printing of Ghana cards, having received 700,000 blank cards following a deal between the Acting Executive Secretary and its technical partners.
The NIA in a statement issued earlier this week said these cards would be used to print the backlog- which encompasses first-time, replacements and updates of personal information applications- that has been pending since 2023.

Further to this, a technical team has been constituted to supervise the swift printing and distribution of the cards at a yet-to-be-disclosed date.
