Newly Nabbed Suspect In Mamobi-Nima Clash Confesses
31-years old suspect Farouk Dauda alias Omondi has reportedly confessed his involvement in the “gangsterism” that characterised Nima’s late afternoon on January 18, 2022.
His confession came after he was “smoked out” of his hideout and arrested through the efforts of the Police in collaboration with the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), yesterday Sunday, January 23, 2022.
“Suspect Farouk Dauda was arrested at his hideout in a suburb of Accra based on intelligence, after having been into hiding after the incident which occurred on January 18, 2022.
“During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the said clash where he was captured in a video footage wielding a machete as he identified himself in the said video footage”, the police said in a statement.
A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of a wrapped substance suspected to be Indian hemp, the police say.
On January 18, Nima, a suburb of Accra witnessed “gangsterism”. Video footage showed armed men and sounds of what is purported to be gunfire were also heard.
The police noted that the clash was between two feuding factions led by one Kumoji alias Ibrahim Hussein and Bombom alias Ali Awudu, on whose heads the police placed a 20, 000 cedis bounty.
As of Wednesday, January 18 night, seven persons had been arrested.
They were arraigned at the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs. Rosemond Baah Torsu on Friday, January 9, and were denied bail.
The police have assured that efforts are being made to arrest all other persons involved in the violent incident.
