New Media Association Executives Deny Receiving ₵100k Each From Govt

The New Media Association of Ghana has rebutted claims that its executives were dashed ₵100,000 each after an engagement with the Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye.
The Association made up of bloggers, content creators, social media influencers and vloggers, in a statement said the allegations are unfounded, entirely false, misleading, and without merit.
It asserted that the engagement focused on the fight against misinformation, disinformation, and fake news and saw no distribution of money either during or afterwards.
“It is important to place on record that no monies were received by any executive member of the Association, nor was any financial commitment made to the Association at large during or after the said meeting. Claims suggesting that executives were given GHC100,000 each or that bloggers are being paid GHC20,000 monthly are entirely false, misleading, and without merit.”
Urging political parties to desist from spreading the false narrative, it noted that it was affecting its efforts to unify digital media players across the country and elevate the standards of practice.
“We urge the public and all party communicators to refrain from spreading misinformation that only serves to create division and undermine genuine efforts toward national development.”
It further reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and collaboration with all stakeholders – regardless of political affiliations.
“Our mission is to serve as a bridge between digital media practitioners and stakeholders, including government, to foster a responsible and vibrant media ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, it appreciated the opportunity to engage with the Kwakye Ofosu to build a mutually beneficial relationship in support of Ghana’s digital communication agenda.
