NDC Primaries Carry On Tomorrow
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is cleared to carry on with its plans for the Presidential and Parliamentary primaries this Saturday.
This comes after Dr Kwabena Duffuor dropped his injunction application against the party on Friday, May 12, 2023.
On the day of the hearing, Dr Duffuor’s lawyers communicated their client’s decision to discontinue the case.
The High Court, therefore, struck out the application.
Dr Duffuor, an NDC flagbearer hopeful, filed an application for injunction on May 9 to restrain the party from carrying out their primaries on May 13.
The candidate held that there were inaccuracies in the voter’s register, which houses information about delegates.
The suit came after he had written to the National Secretary of the party about his concerns saying, “Upon review of the 220 constituencies voters register (photo album) we identified several discrepancies in the register that indicate it is both incomplete and inaccurate.”
The application was served on the Electoral Commission (EC) which compelled the latter to abandon its supervisory role in the primaries.
During a meeting with the executives of the NDC and representatives of the presidential hopefuls on Wednesday, the EC said it did not want to be cited for contempt and therefore urged them to sort out the court issue first.
