NDC MPs Demand Annulment of Ayawaso East Primary

The Majority Caucus in parliament has demanded an annulment of the Ayawaso East Constituency primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The election held on February 7, 2026, has been bedevilled by controversies of vote-buying and bribery.
In a statement, the NDC lawmakers, through the Majority leader, strongly condemned the developments against the background of the agenda to reset the politics of this country.
It also suggested banning any candidate found to have engaged in this unethical conduct from participating in the subsequent primary after annulment of the election.
“The NDC Majority Caucus remains committed to restoring integrity to our politics.”
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, over the weekend announced a full-scale probe into the allegations.
The party further vowed that more drastic sanctions would be taken, including possibly cancelling elections, when such incidents come to the attention of the party.
Baba Jamal, the country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, won the primary with 431 votes.
