NDC Elections: Ofosu Ampofo Prays For Recovery From Pain And Dented Reputation
The outgone National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has prayed for recovery from pain and dented reputation after the 10th National Congress of the party which took place over the weekend.
According to him, some verbal attacks by some aspirants in the name of campaigning were insensitive.
Ahead of the Congress, audio of the reigning National Chairman of the Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia dissing Ofosu Ampofo went viral.
In the audio, he blamed the former Chairman for the defeat of the party in the 2020 general elections.
“Some people caused that problem. The collation system he (Ofosu Ampofo) gave us broke down after processing results from 5 regions.
“When we decided to go to court, he (Ofosu Ampofo) didn’t give me any useful data to present. That’s why I said I didn’t have our collated results when I was asked in court”, he recounted.
In his statement after his defeat, Ofosu Ampofo noted that the “elections needlessly witnessed the worse form of inner vilification, personal attacks and public injury to the hard-won reputation of our Party through various means of public spaces and on social media platforms”.
According to him, this will inadvertently affect the restitution, unity and cohesion needed towards the party’s agenda for victory in 2024.
He added, “I pray that we quickly recover from our individual pain and dented reputation to restore our public morality so we can join forces to soldier on.”
Congratulating the elected executives, he pledged his support towards the party’s battle in the 2024 elections of the country.
“I re-dedicate myself to the bigger task of working for victory in 2024 and pledge my unalloyed commitment to work even harder for the party together with the elected National officers, and the rank and file of our great party to achieve our ultimate goal of regaining power from the NPP in 2024.”
Ofosu Ampofo lost to his former subordinate, Asiedu Nketia in the election after garnering 2892 votes whereas Asiedu Nketia polled 5562 votes.
