Nana Bediatuo Wants to Exit with “His Excellency” Title- Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has read his own meaning into the appointment of Nana Asante Bediatuo, the Secretary to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Ambassador-at-Large.

Bediatuo was among nine persons handed credentials on Monday, June 25, 2024, to serve as diplomats during a ceremony at the Jubilee House.

He has been appointed Ambassador-at-Large, an appointment a section of Ghanaians opposes as unnecessary.

Adding his voice and lending his weight to the opposition, the North Tongu Constituency Member of Parliament posited that Bediatuo only intends to add “His Excellency” to his credentials.

“It appears to me that only the Ambassador-at-Large, Nana Bediatuo Asante, benefits from these rather belated appointments since he wouldn’t require any host nation accreditation to be at large.

“It’s pretty obvious Bediatuo wants to leave government with an additional title of His Excellency, so his cousin the President has obliged him,” Ablakwa said.

Other appointed envoys are Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria; Francisca Ashietey-Oduntun, High Commissioner-designate to South Africa; Ernest Yaw Amporful, High Commissioner-designate to Rwanda; and Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh, Ambassador-designate to Türkiye.

The rest are Henry Tachie-Menson, Ambassador-designate to Belgium and the EU; Charity Gbedawo, Ambassador-designate to Morocco; Abigail Naa Adzoko Kwashi, Ambassador-designate to Norway; and Dr Robert Afriyie, Ambassador-designate to Ethiopia and the African Union.
