NAIMOS Nabs 2 Chinese Illegal Miners Polluting Subri River

A team from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) have arrested two Chinese nationals at an illegal mining site along the SUBRI River at Bekwai Subrisu in the Western Region.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the two were caught actively mining using two (2) excavators and other mining equipment on Monday, December 8, 2025.

“The activities of the 2 Chinese Galamseyers and others have severely polluted the River Subri and other water bodies within the general area, with several portions of the lands also badly degraded.”

It reported that several metallic gold trapping platforms used by the illegal miners were pulled down, while three (3) heavy-duty water pumping machines were destroyed to incapacitate the nefarious activities of the illegal miners.

The two Chinese Galamseyers have since been conveyed to Accra and safely handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for necessary action.

It furthered that NAIMOS continues its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining activities to restore sanity in the Country’s mining sector.
