NACOC Arrests South African With Cannabis at Kotoka

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a South African national at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for allegedly carrying cannabis.

The suspects whose details are not readily available were attempting to smuggle over 30 kilograms of cannabis into Ghana, a statement by the Commission said.

He is reported to have arrived on a flight from Thailand and was apprehended by NACOC officials after intelligence led to a thorough search of his luggage.

“The cannabis was carefully concealed in vacuum-sealed packages hidden within his personal belongings.”

NACOC also arrested an airline official stationed at KIA for allegedly aiding the suspect in bypassing routine security checks.

Preliminary investigations suggest a coordinated effort between the foreign national and the airline worker to smuggle the illicit substance into the country, the Commission reported, adding that both suspects are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

NACOC warned that anyone found complicit in narcotic-related offences, regardless of nationality or position, will face the full rigours of the law.

“The Commission has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward drug trafficking and assured the public that stringent measures remain in place to detect and prevent such activities.”
