My Son Didn’t Carry Gun to Kill, It Was an Accident- Salifu Amoako
The founder of Alive Chapel International, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako has defended his son, Elrad Salifu Amoako against public backlash, emphasising that he didn’t intentionally cause the death of the two twelve-year-olds in the ghastly accident at East Legon.
Publicly speaking about the incident at his church on October 20 after apologizing in a broadcast to the bereaved family, he stated without remorse that it was just an accident, adding that his pedigree in society has given the incident an undue popularity.
“It was an accident. My son did not carry a gun to kill anybody. He involved himself in a terrible accident, and I am not the one who did it, nor his mother. It is my name that is why people are talking,” Channel One News quotes him as saying.
“If this was an Okada [motorcycle] accident, who would mention it? It is just because it is my name, so keep quiet and let’s see what the Lord will do.”
He also faulted Ghanaians saying, “People don’t know the truth so Ghanaians talk. The only thing they have is talking. Did you hear what I said? Ghana here, they don’t have anything, the only thing they have is talking. Talk is cheap, don’t go and say things to add more pain to my life. Stay calm, stay quiet, the case is still in court.”
Background
The son of the clergyman was driving a Jaguar SUV vehicle with registration number GN 7801-20 alongside one passenger when he rammed into a 4X4 Acura vehicle with registration number GR 2542-23 which had five occupants including the driver.
Both vehicles got torched by an electric pole at the scene. Passerby successfully rescued three occupants of the Acura as well as the two occupants of the SUV.
The remaining two unfortunately perished in the fire.
Following this, the police arrested the parents of the suspect driver, Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako as well as one other and charged them with permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
They were subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000.
Meanwhile, the suspect driver is still at a hospital receiving treatment for injuries he suffered in the accident.
