MTN Increases Prices Of Products, Services
Telecommunication company MTN Ghana has announced an increase in the prices of its products and services.
This takes effect today, February 7, 2023, and customers were prompted about it in SMSs days before the implementation.
The company has cited the economic downturn which has led to an increase in the cost of production for the increment.
MTN was due to adjusting the prices of mobile data by 15% in November 2022, however, it was suspended.
No reason was attributed to the suspension.
A few months down the line, the Company has announced the implementation of the adjustment.
This time around, the adjustments affect airtime as well.
Days to February 7, the Company sent messages to customers informing them about the upward adjustment.
“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed that effective 7th Feb. 2023, the price of all MTN products will be adjusted upwards”, part of the SMS to customers said.
It cited the 2.5% increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) for the increment in a statement.
According to the company, voice users will now receive less airtime due to the VAT implementation, and mobile data customers will receive fewer data bundle allocations for the same price purchased before the tariff increase was made.
The adjustment in mobile data affects products available on the shortcodes 138 & 170, as well as on purchases through Electronic Voucher Distribution (EVD), MTN Pulse, and Data Zone except for XtraTime.
Fiber Broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (4G Router / Turbonet) customers are excluded from the review.
