Mpox Cases Jump to 85
The number of confirmed Mpox cases in Ghana has risen sharply to 85, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced.
It comes after six new cases were recorded.
“Ghana has recorded 6 new Mpox cases, bringing the total to 85.”
In an update on Tuesday, the GHS said the recent rise in cases is due to stronger surveillance such as contact tracing and increased public awareness, helping to detect and isolate cases faster.
The Service has since directed the public to avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals, and people with rashes on their bodies; practice good hygiene; and visit any health facility if they notice any symptoms.
“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”
Common symptoms of Mpox include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”
