Morocco Dispels Massacre Claims

The Kingdom of Morocco has dispelled allegations suggesting Africans in the country are being massacred.

The Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil during a visit to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa acknowledged the widely circulated videos on social media but noted that they were false.

She assured that Ghanaians and Africans in the North African country are safe.

In a Facebook post, Ablakwa explained that “the footage in issue is an old 24th June 2022 border incident which led to the tragic, unfortunate and condemnable loss of 23 lives.”

“That deplorable incident has since been investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities. It is worth noting that no Ghanaian casualty was recorded,” he added.

The “fruitful” discussions between the two officials also covered scholarship programmes. The Kingdom now plans to increase scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180 beginning this year.

Additionally, they agreed on a visa waiver for travellers from both countries and planned to deepen collaborations in Agribusiness, Tourism and Security.
